Students of Jahangirnagar University have released 15 buses of Selfie Paribahan regarding a deadly accident that occurred last week–after the bus authorities paid the family of the deceased Tk 8 lac against compensation.
Rubel Parvez, 32, a former student of JU and recommended for recruitment for the Bangladesh Civil Service in the 41st BCS (Education) cadre, was killed in a collision of the two buses of Selfie Paribahan in Dhamrai on the morning of December 7.
Students of the university later seized 25 buses of Selfie Paribahan demanding Tk25 lakh for Rubel’s family. Ten buses were initially released after discussions with the owners.
The Selfie Paribahan authorities held several rounds of discussions with Prof Dr Abdullah Hel Kafi of the International Relations Department of the University for the Release of the rest of the buses.
Professor Kafi said the matter was resolved in the presence of the UNO of Savar upazila.
