Asaduzzaman Joy is a popular content creator among people who love to read books these days. Besides content creation, he is currently studying at Dhaka University. He recently spoke about various aspects of his life with The Daily Campus. Tawfiqul Islam Himel of The Daily Campus heard his words.
The Daily Campus: I want to know about your childhood.
Asaduzzaman Joy: I was born in Gopalganj. But my school-college and growing up was all in Chittagong. I am the eldest son of the family. I have younger brothers and sisters.
Actually I had a special attraction towards books from class two-three. But at that time I could not read the books of serious topics. When I used to go to trade fairs, there was a bookstore in one corner. I used to go there and stand in front of him. But father would not buy that time like that.
I have a younger uncle. He also likes to read books. Apart from reading books, he also wrote poetry. I used to read his books at that time. I used to read different types of stories especially in Bengali and English second papers of his class. I used to read those many times. Because I didn’t have many books.
The Daily Campus: We’d love to hear your education stories.
Asaduzzaman Joy: My school-college was in Chittagong and after finishing school-college I got admission in Dhaka University.
The Daily Campus: We have seen you review various books. How to start this work with books?
Asaduzzaman Joy: Actually I used to read a lot of books since my childhood. I like reading books. When I used to see big people, I used to think that they must have studied a lot and read a lot of books to reach this position. To know about them one has to read many books. From there came a kind of attraction towards my books.
The Daily Campus: You are now a household name through content creation. How to maintain this reputation?
Asaduzzaman Joy: I don’t consider myself very popular yet. Some people recognize when passing by the street, most people don’t. But it’s true, I love it when strangers come up and introduce themselves. If someone’s life changes even a little by watching my videos, if someone buys or reads a book, that’s my success.
The Daily Campus: Can a content creator survive by just creating content these days?
Asaduzzaman Joy: It’s actually diverse. If one is a content creator at a very high level, then it is normal for him. He can financially support not only him but many more people. That’s why you will see many content creators but they don’t do any work outside of this work. You will see many doing business along with content creation.
The Daily Campus: The current generation of boys and girls have less love for books. What do you want to say to them?
Asaduzzaman Joy: Actually love for books is not less. Nowadays, books are relatively behind the list of students’ preferences due to social media. But if there are two types of people in the world. One group who like reading books another group who don’t like reading books. In fact, these two types of people can never be one.
In fact, not everyone can become human just by being born on earth. Watching various educational videos, listening to podcasts, reading books these external things are very important to become a good person.
The Daily Campus: Tell something about your life that has never been told before.
Asaduzzaman Joy: I had very bad results in high school. Due to which I could not pass the entrance exam in most of the universities. Later I had to change category. I studied a lot during those four months of entrance exam.
Actually I didn’t get mentorship from any seniors like that. Since I was the eldest son in the family, there was no one to guide me. But I have now found many great mentors on social media or in various places on the internet.
The Daily Campus: What obstacles have you faced in your life so far?
Asaduzzaman Joy: At first I thought I didn’t look like a celebrity. Will people watch my videos? Then slowly started making different types of videos with books.
There have been some obstacles. Some people have said harsh words. But most of the people got inspiration. From many great authors to many readers have inspired me. But my parents have supported me the most in my content creation journey.
The Daily Campus: What is your next life goal, who is your idol?
Asaduzzaman Joy: To bring a positive change in the lives of at least 10 crore people of the country. To build a digital library of the largest kind, as seen in the developed world. Store different types of books, through which you can keep yourself well and also keep people around you well. As a Muslim my idol has always been Hazrat Muhammad. I hold his ideology.
The Daily Campus: Thank you for your valuable time.
Asaduzzaman Joy: Thank you very much.
