General students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have demanded a boycott of beverages marketed by Israel-supporting companies at the Victory Day feasts.
Like every year, this year also in every hall of the university, a party has been organized on 16th December. However, a different kind of protest has emerged in this event. The issue of boycott of Seven Up, Coca-Cola, Sprite, Mountain Dew drinks in halls on December 16 as a protest against Israel’s atrocities has come up from among the students.
They made this claim with a status on social media Facebook. A review of over half a hundred statuses shared on Facebook showed this. They asked for other drinks as an alternative to Israeli drinks.
On the day of their victory from the halls of the university, they called on the students and the authorities to take this step to reduce the victory of the oppressed of another country or the ongoing oppression of them.
“We may not be able to protest directly against Israel’s atrocities or do much for the oppressed Palestinian people, but we can boycott Israeli drinks on Victory Day,” said Tahera Siddiqa, a final year student of the English Department.
If we can introduce it in our university halls, then universities all over Bangladesh can be inspired by us, she added.
