The University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education announced the arrangement of a single admission test from the academic year 2023-24. The UGC also prepared the draft ordinance for the admission test for all the universities and sent it to the Ministry of Education. But in the end it was not implemented.
Because of that, there may be a separate admission test for agricultural cluster of eight universities this time too. However, the universities are also unable to take a decision as they have not yet received an official decision regarding the cancellation of the single admission test. Sources said that a meeting will be held in this regard after getting the decision. However, most of the teachers are in favor of not grouping the entrance examination of agricultural universities.
Last year also they opposed and consequently doubts have arisen about the existence of agricultural clusters. However, the authorities have not yet taken any decision in this regard; a meeting will be held soon and a decision will be taken. This time, Sylhet Agricultural University will be responsible for taking the GST admission test.
In this point, Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh (Bakribi) told The Daily Campus on Thursday (December 14), We are still in favor of taking the admission test in groups. However, there is pressure from some teachers not to be joined in group. If there is a committee meeting in this regard, it can be declared how the admission test will be conducted.
When asked, Professor Jamal Uddin Bhuya, Vice-Chancellor, Sylhet Agricultural University told The Daily Campus on Thursday (December 14), the government has not officially announced the decision regarding single admission yet. I have learned from the media that there will not be a single test this time. Once decided we will decide on the bunch.
Our university teachers are in favor of bunches. I don’t know about other universities, he added
According to sources in the Ministry of Education, the UGC was asked to propose a single admission test but sent the draft of the ordinance. But it is not acceptable. Because if Parliament is not in session, the President can issue an ordinance in an emergency. Now there is no state of emergency in the country as the proposal was not accepted.
